After a short spell in solitary confinement. Jeffrey Dahmer goes to prison, the same weapon of choice as used by Dahmer himself is Used in Dahmers murder.
Jeffrey Dahmer goes to prison
Upon sentencing, Dahmer was transferred to the Columbia Correctional Institution in Portage, Wisconsin. For the first year of his incarceration, Dahmer was placed in solitary confinement. Due to concerns for his physical safety should he come into contact with fellow inmates.
With Dahmer’s consent, after one year in solitary confinement. He was transferred to a less secure unit, where he was assigned a two-hour daily work detail cleaning the toilet block.
Shortly after completing his lengthy confessions in 1991, Dahmer had requested to Detective Patrick Murphy that he be given a copy of the Bible. This request was granted and Dahmer gradually devoted himself to Christianity and became a born-again Christian. On his father’s urging, he also read creationist books from the Institute for Creation Research.
In May 1994, Dahmer was baptized by Roy Ratcliffe. A minister in the Church of Christ and a graduate of Oklahoma Christian University, in the prison whirlpool. Following his baptism, Ratcliff visited Dahmer on a weekly basis up until November 1994.
Dahmer and Ratcliff regularly discussed the prospect of death, and Dahmer questioned whether he was sinning against God by continuing to live. Referring to his crimes in a 1994 interview with Stone Phillips on Dateline NBC, Dahmer had stated.
“If a person doesn’t think that there is a God to be accountable to, then what’s the point of trying to modify your behavior to keep it within acceptable ranges? That’s how I thought anyway.”
In July 1994, a fellow inmate, Osvaldo Durruthy, attempted to slash Dahmer’s throat with a razor embedded in a toothbrush as Dahmer returned to his cell from Roy Ratcliff’s weekly church service conducted in the prison chapel. Dahmer received superficial wounds and was not seriously hurt in this incident.
According to Dahmer’s family, he had long been ready to die, and accepted any punishment which he might endure in prison. In addition to his father and stepmother maintaining regular contact, Dahmer’s mother, Joyce, also maintained regular contact with her son (although prior to his arrest, the two had not seen each other since Christmas 1983).
Joyce Dahmer related that in her weekly phone calls, whenever she expressed concerns for her son’s physical well-being, Dahmer responded with comments to the effect of. “It doesn’t matter, Mom. I don’t care if something happens to me.”
Jeffrey Dahmers Death
On the morning of November 28, 1994, Dahmer left his cell to conduct his assigned work detail. Accompanying him were two fellow inmates. Jesse Anderson and Christopher Scarver. The trio was left unsupervised in the showers of the prison gym for approximately 20 minutes.
At approximately 8:10 a.m. Dahmer was discovered on the floor of the bathrooms of the gym suffering from extreme head and facial wounds. He had been severely bludgeoned about the head and face with a 20-inch (51 cm) metal bar.
His head had also been repeatedly struck against the wall in the assault. Although Dahmer was still alive and was rushed to a nearby hospital, he was pronounced dead one hour later. Anderson had also been beaten with the same instrument, and died two days later from his wounds.
Scarver, who was serving a life sentence for a murder committed in 1990. Informed authorities he had first attacked Dahmer with the metal bar as he (Dahmer) was cleaning a staff locker room, before attacking Anderson as he (Anderson) cleaned an inmate locker room.
According to Scarver, Dahmer did not yell or make any noise as he was attacked. Immediately after attacking both men, Scarver, who was thought to be schizophrenic. Returned to his cell and informed a prison guard. “God told me to do it. Jesse Anderson and Jeffrey Dahmer are dead.” Scarver was adamant he had not planned the attacks in advance, although he later divulged to investigators he had concealed the 20-inch iron bar used to kill both men in his clothing shortly before the killings.
Upon learning of his death, Dahmer’s mother Joyce Flint responded angrily to the media. “Now is everybody happy? Now that he’s bludgeoned to death, is that good enough for everyone?”
The response of the families of Dahmer’s victims was mixed. Although it appears most were pleased with his death. The district attorney who prosecuted Dahmer cautioned against turning Scarver into a folk hero, noting that Dahmer’s death was still murder. On May 15, 1995, Scarver was sentenced to two additional terms of life imprisonment for the murders of Dahmer and Anderson.
Although Scarver had confessed in 1994 to having concealed the weapon used to kill Dahmer and Anderson in his clothing on the morning of the murders. In 2015, he publicly stated the murders of Dahmer and Anderson had resulted from a confrontation.
In which one of the two men had poked him (Scarver) in the back as the three had begun their assigned work detail. In this renewed account of events, Scarver claimed that the two had laughed at him when he had turned around in response before Dahmer and Anderson each walked to separate rooms to begin their cleaning duty. With Scarver following Dahmer toward the staff locker room.
Scarver alleges that immediately before murdering Dahmer, he had cornered him. Presented a newspaper article detailing Dahmer’s crimes, and demanded that Dahmer answer whether the account was true.
Scarver further alleged he had been revolted by Dahmer’s crimes and that Dahmer had been openly unrepentant. That Dahmer taunted prison employees and fellow inmates by shaping his prison food into imitations of severed limbs, complete with ketchup to simulate blood spattering; and that prison staff, knowing of Scarver’s hatred for Dahmer, had deliberately left the two men unsupervised so that he could kill him.
Furthermore, Scarver stated that Dahmer was so disliked by fellow inmates that he required a personal escort. Of at least one guard whenever he was out of his cell to prevent inmates from attacking him.
Dahmer had stated in his will he wished for no services to be conducted. And that he wished to be cremated. In September 1995, Dahmer’s body was cremated, and his ashes divided between his parents.
So, Some would say that the house you grow up in plays a part in shaping who you are as a person. But if that’s the case for Jeffrey Dahmers childhood home. 4480 W Bath Road in Akron, Ohio. There must be something seriously disturbing going on with this property.
What appears to be an ordinary, suburban ranch was once home to serial murderer and cannibal Jeffrey Dahmer.
Dahmer murdered his first victim, Steven Hicks, in this very house back in 1978 before scattering Hicks’ remains around the property.
Dahmer later moved to Wisconsin where he murdered 16 more victims over the course of the next 13 years.
The wooded home boasts three bedrooms and three bathrooms across the 2,170 square feet of space where one can disturbingly imagine a young Dahmer playing and running around.
But perhaps we saved the most disturbing piece for last — the home was recently available for rent during this year’s Republican National Convention at a rate of $8,000 per week.
Howard Hanna, the official housing provider for the convention, made sure to add a line about the house being a former home to an infamous killer in their listing before the convention.
The home last sold in December 2005 for $244,500 to Chris Butler, founder of the band “The Waitresses”.

Weird Jeffrey Dahmer Facts.
He was a Gemini. Jeffrey Lionel Dahmer was born May 21st, 1960, confirming yet again, that Geminis are some scary motherfuckers.
A connection to 13. Superstition surrounding the number 13 has not escaped some people. Jeffrey Dahmer’s name has 13 letters and his murder spree lasted 13 years, and he lived in apartment number 213.which was the 13th apartment on the 2nd floor.
Surgery changed him. Jeffrey Dahmer was like every other little boy until he had minor surgery to correct a double hernia at the age of six years old. However, the surgery brought about a change in the young boy. The surgery also coincided with the arrival of his little brother.
The happy little boy soon changed into an insular child who lacked self confidence. His confidence and insecurities were heightened when the family was forced to relocate to Ohio due his father’s new career opportunity.
He was obsessed with bones. His father said he had a strange fascination with the sound bones made, and believed he developed his fixation of collecting and playing with bones after his father found and removed the bones of a dead animal out from under the family home when Jeff was 4 years old. After, he would often search beneath and around the family home for additional bones.
He was a neglected child. Many believe that the negligence of his parents is partially to blame for Jeff’s disturbing behavior from a young age. He was the son of a Teletype Machine Instructor (his mother), and a Chemist (his father). His father was always away from home, either studying or working, his mother was attention deprived in the marriage, and became depressed. She became addicted to Enaquil pills and even attempted suicide by overdose. Due to constant fighting with one another, Jeff and his younger brother, David, were often neglected.
Dahmer’s First Grade teacher noticed something was off about him. She even wrote a note on his report card, stating that he was a “Reserved child who she felt was neglected.”
He was always fascinated with dead things. Dahmer started collecting insects and butterflies as a kid, then moved on to collecting road kill, always keeping carcasses in jars after dismembering them, out of the fascination with how the pieces fit together.
His father unknowingly taught him how to preserve his victims. At 8 years old, during a chicken dinner with family, Dahmer expressed a curiosity to his father of how to bleach the bones of the chicken. His father, being a chemist, was proud of his son’s scientific curiosity. So, he showed him how to safely bleach and later preserve the bones. His father was unaware of what he started, or that that the methods he taught Jeff would be used for much more sinister purposes in Dahmer’s future.
He may have been sexually molested by his older neighbor. Reports have emerged that Jeffrey Dahmer may have been sexually molested by his older neighbor when he was 8 years old, but the assault was unreported. While we may never know if the molestation did occur, it would fit the profile of a serial killer’s childhood
He may have fallen somewhere on the autistic spectrum. According to Listland, Dahmer was socially awkward, had a limited spectrum of facial expressions, had obsessive interests, and appeared stiff and mechanical in the way he carried himself. Due to these characteristics, some professionals thought he might have Aspergers.
There was a comic book written after him. John “Derf Backderf was a schoolmate and friend who knew Dahmer from 7th grade to graduation, is now a comic writer, and even wrote a comic called My Friend Dahmer, recently turned in to a motion picture, recounting their friendship and his impressions of Dahmer growing up. The book can be found on his website, Derfcity.com. In an interview about growing up with Dahmer, he stated, “He got darker and darker. The drinking was out of control.”
Dahmer struggled with alcoholism from a very young age. He attended Rivere High School in Richfield, Ohio, where he participated in extracurricular activities, such as tennis and band. His teachers observed him to be polite and highly intelligent. His classmates, however, were a bit disturbed by the way he would smuggle alcohol into the building from the age of 14, inside his jacket and would keep it in his locker to drink before, during, and after school. When classmates asked him why he was drinking Gin in class, he called it his “medicine”.
He was deemed as a class clown in high school by some classmates. Socially awkward, sure, but he gained the attention and appreciation of some of his classmates with his odd sense of humor, often staging pranks and imitating epileptic seizures and cerebral palsy to entertain himself and others. This behavior became known as “doing the Dahmer”.
Dahmer was highly intelligent. Like many other serial killers, Jeffrey Dahmer had a very high IQ. This high IQ often helps such criminals avoid capture by police for many years because they are able to plan and execute their crimes very well. His IQ was estimated to be around 145.
He was 16 years old when he plotted his first attack on another human being. He had developed a crush on a male jogger who frequently ran past the Dahmer family home. Dahmer hid in the bushes by the road with a baseball bat, fully intending to knock the man unconscious when he jogged by, then using the man’s unconscious body to fulfill a rape fantasy. Luckily, the jogger didn’t go out for his daily run that day, and Dahmer quickly gave up, and never tried to implement this plan again.
His first murder occurred just weeks after high school graduation. Dahmer’s parents divorced in early 1978. His father moved out of the family home and into a hotel room just a couple months before his mother gained custody of their youngest son, and also moved out to live with family elsewhere, leaving Jeff the house to himself at 18 years old. On June 18, 1978, Dahmer invited 18-year-old hitchhiker, Steven Hicks, to his home for a night of music and alcohol. Several hours later, Hicks thanked Dahmer for his hospitality and was ready to leave. Dahmer didn’t want him to go. So, he struck Hicks over the head with a dumbbell, knocking him unconscious, before proceeding to strangle him with the bar of the dumbbell and kill him. Dahmer then stripped Hicks of his clothes and masturbated over his dead body. Dahmer then dissected Hicks’ body in the crawl space under his home and disposed of the remains in a shallow grave in his backyard. Several weeks later, he dug up the remains and stripped the flesh from the bones with acid and flushed the acid down the toilet, smashed the bones with a sledgehammer, and scattered them in the woods behind his family home.
He was a predator during his time in the U.S. Army. The August after graduation and his first killing, Dahmer enrolled in Ohio State University to major in business. He ended up dropping out 3 months into his first semester due to his alcoholism, and his dad encouraged him to enlist in the U.S. Army. In 1979, Dahmer trained as a medical specialist at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio Texas. He served as a combat medic in 2nd Battalion, 68th Armored Regiment, and the 8th infantry division in West Germany. Two soldiers claimed to have been raped by Dahmer during his time present. However, of all things, it was his alcoholism that had him deemed unsuitable for military service and he was discharged from the army in March of 1981.
Hereceived an honorable discharge from the US army. Owing to Dahmer’s alcohol abuse, his performance deteriorated and, in March 1981, he was deemed unsuitable for military service and was later discharged from the Army. He received an honorable discharge, as his superiors did not believe that any problems Dahmer had in the Army would be applicable to civilian life.
He exposed himself to children at the park. Within two weeks of returning home to live with his father, Dahmer was arrested for drunk and disorderly conduct. His father no longer knew how to help him, so he sent him to live with his grandmother in West Allis, Wisconsin, in hopes that her positive influence would help him sober up and get his life in order. However, his drinking never subsided and a few months later, Dahmer was arrested for indecent exposure on Aug 7th, 1982 for exposing himself to a group of women and children at the park near his grandmother’s home. He spent the majority of the next few years unemployed until he gained employment at the Ambrosia Chocolate Factory.
He kept a male mannequin in his closet. Yup. Dahmer stole a mannequin from a store and used it as a prop for sexual stimulation until his grandmother found it stored in his closet and made him get rid of it.
He didn’t enjoy having sex with consenting partners, because they moved too much. While having sex with men he met at gay bars and bathhouses, he became frustrated with the way his partners moved during sex. So he started lacing their drinks with sedatives and raping them while they were unconscious. After several complaints from victims, Dahmer lost his membership at the bathhouse. He then started renting hotel rooms to continue his disgusting behavior.
He tried to steal a corpse. According to The Man Who Could Not Kill Enough by Anne E. Schwartz. In 1986, Dahmer read an obituary in the newspaper for a recently deceased 18-year-old man, and later admitted to attempting to dig up his grave and steal his corpse. But the ground was too hard, so he quickly gave up.
He lied about masturbating in front of children, and claimed he was only peeing. In 1986, Dahmer was arrested for masturbating in front of two 12-year-old boys and charged with indecent exposure. Dahmer claimed he was simply urinating, so the charge was changed to disorderly conduct.
Dahmer had a routine for how he lured, murdered, disposed of, and kept the bodies of his victims. For the most part, Dahmer followed the same procedure with his victims. He would lure them to his home with offers of money for sex, or money for private photoshoots. Then he would drug, rape, and kill his male victims (not always in that order), sever the limbs and head from the torso, remove the bones from the body by either using acid or by simply cutting the flesh from the bone, then he would dissolve all remaining flesh and dispose of it. After which, he would either smash the bones with a sledgehammer and scatter or discard of them. However, Dahmer almost always kept the skulls of his victims. According to The Journal Times, Dahmer stated, “It was my way of remembering their appearances; Their physical beauty. If I couldn’t keep them there with me, I could keep their skeletons.”
Dahmer sometimes preserved full body parts of victims. On some occasions, when he found particular victims exceptionally attractive, he would preserve their entire head, hands, penis, or other body parts in jars of solution.
Dahmer sometimes ate certain body parts of his victims. Dahmer mostly ate the hearts, biceps, livers, or parts of the flesh off the legs of his victims.
From the years of 1978 to 1991, Dahmer murdered 17 young boys and men, had sex with corpses, hoarded body parts, and ate others. The known names, ages, and dates of his victims include:
Steven Hicks, 18 years old, June 18, 1978.
Steven Tuomi, 25 years old, Nov 20, 1987.
James Doxtator, 14 years old, Jan 16, 1988.
Richard Guerrero, 22 years old, March 24, 1988.
Anthony Sears, 24 years old, March 25, 1989.
Raymond Smith, 32 years old, May 20, 1990.
Edward Smith, 27 years old, June 1990.
Ernist Miller, 22 years old, Sept, 1990.
David Thomas, 22 years old, Sept 24, 1990.
Curtis Straughter, 17 years old, Feb, 1991.
Errol Lindsey, 19 years old, April 7, 1991.
Tony Hughes, 31 years old, May 24, 1991.
Konerak Sinthasomphone, 14 years old, May 26, 1991.
Matt Turner, 20 years old, June 30, 1991.
Jeremiah Weinberger, 23 years old, July 5, 1991.
Oliver Lacy, 24 years old, July 15, 1991.
Joseph Bradehaft, 25 years old, July 19, 1991.
He murdered three (but attempted to murder 4) victims in his grandmother’s home while he lived with her. Steven Tuomi, James Doxtator, and Richard Guerrero were all murdered and/or dismantled and disposed of at Dahmer’s grandmother’s house without her knowledge. On April 23, 1988, Dahmer attempted to lure another man to his grandmother’s home to murder him, but after drugging him, Dahmer’s grandmother called for him, and he realized that she probably saw him bring his company into the home. So, instead of killing him as intended, he waited until the man passed out from the drugs he gave him, and then Dahmer dropped him off at the nearest hospital. Dahmer’s grandmother unknowingly saved that man’s life. His grandmother ended up kicking him out of her house for a short time because she was tired of the late night male visitors constantly coming into her home, as well as the overwhelming foul smells coming from the basement and the garage, which she knew Dahmer was somehow responsible for.
He kept the head of one of his victims in his work locker. On March 25th, 1989, Dahmer drugged, raped, and murdered Anthony Sears. He found him to be exceptionally attractive. Sears was the first victim from whom Dahmer preserved the head and genitals in acetone, and stored in his locker while working at the chocolate factory.
He occasionally fucked up. In May of 1990, Dahmer accidentally drank the laced alcohol that was intended for his victim, knocking himself unconscious. The intended victim caught on to what had happened and robbed Dahmer of several items of clothing, Three hundred dollars, and a watch. Of course, Dahmer let it go and didn’t file a police report.
Three men escaped Jeffrey Dahmer. One was the reason he was finally caught. Tracy Edwards managed to escape from Jeffrey Dahmer one night after being handcuffed and fighting Jeffrey off. Tracy Edwards was also eventually charged with murder of a man by drowning him.
He regretted killing one victim. On Sept 24, 1990, Dahmer drugged, murdered, and posed 22-year-old David Thomas’ naked corpse and took Polaroid pictures. He realized he wasn’t actually even very attracted to him, so he just dismembered and disposed of the body, purposely not keeping any of the parts. Dahmers killings slowed down a little bit after that, He struggled to lure men to his apartment for a few months, and he had told his probation officer that he was suffering from depression and suicidal thoughts during that time period.
He attempted to keep a couple of his victims living, but in a state of constant submission so he could have a sex slave. On April 7, 1991, Dahmer lured 19-year-old Errol Lindsey to his apartment, drugged him, drilled a hole into his skull, and poured hydrochloric acid into it in hopes of causing permanent damage to the brain, leaving the victim in a permanent submissive state. The victim woke and complained of a headache. Dahmer got irritated, strangled and decapitated the victim. He retained the head and attempted to experiment with the skin by trying to preserve it in salt and cold water. The experiment didn’t meet Dahmer’s standards, so he eventually disposed of the skin as well. On July 5th, 1991, Dahmer lured 23-year-old Jeremiah Weinberger into his apartment. He drugged him, drilled a hole in his skull, and twice injected boiling water into his brain, putting him into a coma from which he died two days later.
Neighbors were constantly complaining of strange smells and sounds coming from Dahmer’s apartment. Dahmer stayed in Oxford Apartments, room 213, and by 1991, he had numerous complaints from fellow residents of the building, varying from disturbing smells, to strange sounds coming from his apartment. When confronted, Dahmer simply dismissed the smells of a “broken freezer and spoiled food”, as well as the death of several of his tropical fish in his aquarium.
A victim escaped, and the police literally walked the victim back to Dahmer’s apartment, to his death. The most disturbing fact is probably that in the last week of May 1991, Dahmer lured 14-year-old Konerak Sinthasomphone to his apartment under the agreement of a photoshoot for money. Dahmer got his pictures from the boy, drugged him, drilled a hole into his skull, and injected hydrochloric acid into the frontal lobe of his brain. Dahmer then left the boy in the bedroom and went out to get more beer while he waited for his “experiment” to take effect. When Dahmer was walking back to his apartment, he saw the boy sitting naked on the street outside his apartment building, surrounded by 3 concerned women. Dahmer tried to charm them into letting him take the kid back to his apartment, but they refused and informed Dahmer that they had called the police. According to the New York Times, when the cops arrived, Dahmer charmed the cops into believing that Sinthasomphone was his 19-year-old boyfriend who drank too much. The women called Dahmer’s bullshit, but the cops told them to shut up and mind their own business. Dahmer further “verified” his story by bringing the cops into his apartment and showing them the photos he had taken of the boy just earlier that evening. If the officers weren’t so negligent and had actually paid attention to the overwhelmingly repulsive smell of Dahmer’s apartment, they would have found the decomposing body of Dahmer’s last victim (Tony Hughes) on the bedroom floor. Even a quick background check would have shown them that Dahmer was a registered sex offender. The cops simply did not do their job that night. They left the boy with Dahmer, and Dahmer ended up injecting another dosage of hydrochloric acid into the kid’s brain, killing him. Dahmer ended up calling off work the next day so he could properly dispose of the now two bodies in his apartment, from which he saved the skulls.
Dahmer’s apartment was described as a horrid museum, rather than a crime scene. On July 22, 1991, Dahmer lured 32-year-old Tracy Edwards to his apartment to pose for pictures for money. Edwards instantly noticed the horrid smell, and boxes of hydrochloric acid on the floor (which Dahmer claimed he used to clean bricks). Dahmer tried to distract Edwards with his fish tank he had displayed in the living room while he tried to handcuff Edwards’ hands together, but only managed to get the cuff around one wrist before Edwards pulled away. He told Dahmer he would only go through with the photoshoot arrangement if Dahmer put the cuffs away. Dahmer pulled out a knife and put his head against Edwards’ chest and told him he was going to eat his heart. By then, Edwards had figure out that Dahmer was a psycho, and he started charming him, telling him that they were friends and he wasn’t gonna go anywhere. When Dahmer let his guard down, Edwards punched him in the face and ran out of the apartment, straight to the police. He told the police about the weirdo who cuffed him and asked them to remove the handcuff. Of course, the police officers keys didn’t fit the brand of handcuff around Edwards’ wrist, so they had to escort him back to Dahmer’s apartment so he could unlock the cuffs. The officers investigated Dahmer’s bedside table to retrieve the key and discovered Dahmer’s collection of creepy polaroids of dismembered bodies in the drawer. Dahmer was pinned to the floor and arrested while the officers called for back up. The other officers opened the refrigerator and found the body parts that were still in there. Further investigation of his apartment revealed 4 severed heads in the kitchen, 7 skulls (some painted, some bleached) in the bedroom and in the closet, 2 human hearts and a portion of arm muscle in the refrigerator, and entire torso and a bag of human organs and flesh in the freezer. They also found 2 entire skeletons, a pair of severed hands, two severed and preserved penises, a mummified scalp, and 3 further dismembered torsos dissolving in the 57-gallon drum full of acid in Dahmer’s bedroom. They also found 74 Polaroid pictures of dismembered bodies. The chief medical examiner stated that “It was more like dismantling someone’s museum, rather than an actual crime scene.”
He knew better than to even bother getting a lawyer. On July 23, 1991, Dahmer waived his right to have a lawyer present throughout his interrogations, and readily admitted to having murdered 16 young men in Wisconsin since 1987, and one man (Steven Hicks) in Ohio, 1978.
He couldn’t plead insanity. Although diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, schizotypal personality disorder, and a psychotic disorder, he was found to be legally sane at his trial. He was fully aware of what he was doing when he did all of it.
Over the years, all of his acquired convictions included murder, child molestation, Indecent exposure, disorderly conduct, and public intoxication.
Dahmer kept his sense of humor, even in prison. According to CNN, a former prison guard minister, Roy Ratcliff, said Dahmer would tell the guards, “I bite,” just to get a reaction out of him. He would also shape prison food into replicas of human limbs, cover them in ketchup to imitate blood, and hide them around the prison for other inmates to find.
Jeffrey dahmer was baptised in prison. He was baptized in the prison whirlpool in May 1994. After becoming friends with the prison priest.
His sense of humor got him killed. Dahmer died on November 28, 1994, at the Columbia Correctional Institution, in Portage, Wisconsin, due to head trauma inflicted by another inmate who beat him to death. According to an interview with CNN, Christopher Scarver, the man who beat him to death, says he did it because Dahmer’s sense of humor made him uncomfortable. Scarver kept a newspaper clipping detailing all of Dahmer’s crimes in his room, and he was disgusted by his lack of remorse for his actions. Scarver murdered Dahmer in the prison bathroom by hitting him twice in the head with a metal bar he had smuggled under his clothes from the weight room. Dahmer was cremated, his ashes shared between his mother and father.
More facts added over time but for now, there’s more about Jeffrey Dahmer in the links below.
For years there’s been talk about a Manchester serial killer, known as the canal pusher. To this day the police deny that this is true, but with 80 or more body’s being found in manchester’s canals. it’s certainly raised the eyebrows of the locals. Myself, being one of them.
The reality, that there may be a Manchester serial killer, first dawned on me around 9 years ago. This is what I know.
I’m from Manchester, born and raised. There’s some rough areas, some nice areas. There’s crime, just like anywhere else. So when you hear about a body being found in the canal, you don’t really think too much about it. I mean, alot of manchester’s bars are located along the canal. it’s easy to assume the deceased was intoxicated and had a stumble into the merky water, unable to get back out and drowned. Especially with the Manchester canals not having much to keep people out.
When I heard about a body being found in the canal, I was in the car with my dad heading to work. It was the first day back after the christmas break, and the news came over on the car radio. As tragic, as the news was. With it being so close to the festive period, we both, as I imagine many would, assumed it was someone having a deadly drunken fall into the waters that run through the city.
Another body found in the Manchester canals.
Skip forward exactly 12 months, another first day back to work after Christmas. The same news again, a body had been found in the Manchester canals. “didn’t that last year? ” I asked my dad. “yeah I think so” he replied. Still, no suspicions, it was just another drunken accident.
Another year passes, another first day back at work comes. The exact same story on the radio. Now it’s starting to grab our attention. From this point on, to me, they weren’t just accidents. Three bodies being found in the Manchester canals might not be strange. But a body being found, around the same time every year, is abit weird.
Maybe Manchester has a serial killer
The next year, going back to work after the christmas holidays I was waiting for the news. It was the same story again, a body had been found in the Manchester canals.
For whatever reason, I never looked into there being a Manchester serial killer. Maybe it didn’t really raise too many alarms, Maybe because I worked too much and forgot. I’m not sure, but anyway around 3 years ago, after I moved to Newcastle. I was telling my fiance (who is from Newcastle) about the weird murders happening every year around Christmas in Manchester.
To help explain more about what was going on. I decided to get on the old Google, and started to search about the body’s being found in the Manchester canals. I wasn’t expecting much, if anything really. But i was wrong, and it wasn’t just happening during december/January. I also wasn’t the only person suspicious that there may be a Manchester serial killer. Turned out, he or she is known as the canal pusher. I even found a great youtube video from curiosity, investigating the unusual amount of deaths. I’ll link the video below.
If the Manchester Canal Pusher is a real person. Operating within the city for the past 11 years, and potentially killing nearly 80 people. It would be safe to assume that there have been many or atleast a few. Potential victims who managed to escape the pusher’s pushing.
Even a seasoned pro like Ted Bundy fucked up and allowed some girls to escape. Later being able to identify him and ensure he was convicted. Are there any such incidents of this happening with the pusher?
Surviving the canal pusher
Well, yes there is. In April 2018, a cyclist was violently thrown into the canal at night. By what he deemed to be a “psychopath who… even tried to stop me getting back out. ” After almost drowning as his legs became tangled up in his bike underwater. The ‘pusher’ ran off and the cyclist managed to get to the bank and pulled himself to safety.
The Pusher was described as a white male, aged between 20-40. average height and wearing a black jacket. That pretty much describes around 30 million people in the UK, so not much help there then. But the question remains. Could this person have been THE pusher that is responsible for so many other deaths in the city?
Police were quick to dismiss the incident as completely unrelated to the other deaths in the canal. There is absolutely no evidence to suggest or link the cyclist’s account of what happened with any of the tragic events which have been recorded over the last 11 years.
But what if there isn’t a pusher…
If there is no Manchester serial killer, no canal pusher. Then, is it scarier that all these deaths within the waters that run threw Manchester are accidents? If the numbers are correct – 80 deaths in 11 years – that’s an average of 7.27 deaths a year, or 0.60 per month.
Now I’m not a body count analyst, nor am I a crime investigator. But surely, these numbers need something doing about them, canal pusher or no pusher.
First things first, this is not a tutorial on how to dismember a person. This is just an explanation of how dismemberment is done, and what it is. Most of the serial killers I’ve written about – Jeffrey Dahmer and Ted Bundy being the most commonly known names. Have dismembered their victims, but what isn’t explained. Is how the dismemberment process happens. So, I thought it would be a good idea to explain, how to dismember a person like a serial killer. (I’m not dexter)
Dismemberment: meaning in the Cambridge English dictionary.
To cut, tear or pull the arms and legs off the body of a deadperson or animal.
Why serial killers dismember their victims.
The main reason why serial killers dismember victims, is simply to dispose of the evidence. In a more convenient way than carrying a whole dead body around. Depending on the person it can be quite a heavy object to move around, and not ideal for the average person to carry.
There’s also rigor mortis to think about. Which usually sets in around 2 hours after the deceased has passed away. Rigor mortis, from the Latin for “stiffness of death” is the rigidity that develops in a body after death. It can last anywhere between 8 to 12 hours and still has effects upto 18 hours after this.
So, once a serial killer has murdered a victim, they’re then left with a stiff dead body for the best part of 2 days. Leaving them with the question “how the hell, do I get rid of this”.
How serial killers dismember their victims
Jeffrey Dahmer – most notoriously known for dismembering and eating his victims. – with experience in the dismemberment process. Would first behead his victim and then hang them upside down over his bathtub. This would allow most of the blood to drain from the corpse, and create less of a mess during the dismembering of the limbs.
After the draining was complete. Jeffrey dahmer would then start removing the arms by cutting them off, with one of his many tools. Then do the same to the victims’ legs. Keeping any parts of the flesh, he fancied eating later, in his freezer.
Once the dismemberment was complete, Dahmer would start removing the flesh from the bone. (He wanted to keep the bones, for a shrine he was building.) after removing the flesh, he would then dissolve it in an acid solution. Until it became a jelly like substance, then dispose of it down the toilet.
Once the bones and the skull were clean of flesh, Dahmer would take great care in preserving them. Past failed attempts had taught him that if he didn’t, the bones would become too brittle and need destroying. Which was not suitable for his shrine.
Although this may not be a ‘how to’ on dismembering a person. It is an insight, into how or maybe even why serial killers dismember their victims.
To summarise how dismemberment and disposal is done.
Bruce Lee seemingly couldn’t stop talking once he had admitted his shocking claim, and what he had to say was almost unbelieveable. To admit to such an amount of damage and a love of fire would be shocking enough. But worse, Bruce Lee admitted that nine of his previous fires over the years had caused fatalities. 26 fatalities in total when the victims from each were tallied. Unfazed by what he was recounting. Lee began to set out his accounts of the many fires and deaths he had caused. Apart from the Hastie fire, none of the other fires that Lee confessed to setting had been classed as arson at the time. They were all thought to have been accidental.
The first fire set by Bruce Lee that was to lead to a fatality was on the 23rd June 1973. When six year old Richard Ellington was suffocated after being overcome by smoke inhalation after Lee had set fire to his family home on Askew Avenue, Hull. Lee knew the boy, he attended the same school as Lee and they would often be on the same school bus. The cause at the time was thought to have been a faulty gas meter. Bruce Lee was to say of this murder:
“When we stopped in bus next morning, they said he’s died in a fire during night. I just sat on bus quiet looking out a window and said nowt…I’ve kept it secret from everybody for years.”
72 year old Bernard Smythe was the next to die. Dying in his armchair at home on Glasgow Street on 12th October 1973. A recluse who suffered from gangrene in both legs, Mr Smythe was thought to have knocked over a paraffin heater in his sleep, but in reality Lee squirted paraffin throughout his front room and ignited it. Lee had been walking the streets all night and when he felt the familiar tingling in his fingers, he entered Mr Smythe’s house through a broken window. He then set the fire and left through the front door, leaving Mr Smythe to burn to death agonisingly.
Bruce Lee’s third
Just over two weeks later on 27th October 1973, 34 year old David Brewer was burned alive. Bruce Lee set fire to his house on Madeley Street. Again it was thought to have been a paraffin heater knocked over, but Lee was to confess his guilt by giving an example that showed his malicious streak. He had rowed with Brewer some days previously over some pigeons, with Brewer threatening to give Lee “a clout”.
Seething about this, Lee broke into his home late at night and finding Brewer asleep in his armchair, poured paraffin on him and around the room then ignited it. Brewer caught fire and rushed outside screaming, but despite the efforts of neighbours who came to his aid. Brewer died in agony nine days later in hospital.
“He clipped my ear, and he shouldn’t have done that” claimed Bruce Lee. Some days later, Lee returned to the house and wrung the necks of every one of Brewer’s pigeons.
It was more than a year later when one of Lee’s fires caused its next fatality. A frail partially blind 82 year old woman, Elizabeth Rokahr. She died in a house fire on Rosamund Street, the cause of which was thought to have been her falling asleep whilst smoking in bed. Bruce Lee’s different view on life shone through when he said the following.
“I did see someone lying in a bed, but I didn’t know if it was a man or a woman. I didn’t wake ’em up to ask, did I?”
He admitted that he had entered Mrs Rokahr’s house through the unlocked backdoor. Which she kept open for her cat to come and go.
The fifth fire
The next death was on 3rd June 1976, when 1 year old Andrew Edwards died from smoke inhalation. On this occasion Bruce Lee had set fire to his home on Orchard Park. Andrew’s great grandmother, who was looking after the children that evening managed to get Andrew’s two siblings to safety. But was unable to save Andrew. The elder sibling was later blamed for starting the fire accidentally.
Lee followed this death by claiming another child as a victim. Setting a fire in the home of the Thacker family on West Dock Avenue on 2nd January 1977. Six month old Katrina Thacker was asleep in her cot in the living room of the family home and her mother and siblings were upstairs. Lee entered the home (it transpired later that he knew the family and had again rowed with them some weeks previously). and started a fire, again using paraffin, in the front room. The cause was thought to have been “shedded sparks” from unburnt fuel in the open fireplace. Three years later, Lee was to prove this theory wrong.
“I just went in through a window one evening. I sprinkled paraffin on some carpet and the couch. The living room, I think it was, and up it went. The little baby died in it and I killed her.”
Lee’s worst fire followed just three days later, on 5th January 1977. Wensley Lodge Residential Home was a council run premises that accommodated elderly men of various ages and of various physical and mental ability. Lee claimed that he had cycled the three miles to the area to.
” just come along here to do a big house. Just ride along, any house”
He had painstakingly held a can of paraffin on the handlebars of his bicycle as he pedalled. He then claimed he had chosen the big house as it was “nice and quiet”. Bruce Lee then kicked a window in and started a fire in the bedroom of one of the residents. Lee then left and went to watch the fire from outside. An orderly noticed smoke coming from a first floor corridor and raised the alarm. But the fire spread through the first and second floors, trapping many. The people killed in the fire were as follows.
Harold Akester, 95; Victor Consitt, 83; Benjamin Phillips, 83; Arthur Ellwood, 82; William Hoult, 82; William Carter, 80; Percy Sanderson, 77; John Riby, 75; William Beales, 73; Leonard Dennett, 73; Arthur Hardy, 65
Strangely, the cause for this fire was blamed on a blowtorch. That a plumber had been using earlier that day in a bedroom directly underneath the room where the fire was found to have started. Experts found no faults with any of the plumber’s equipment and the plumber himself denied any negligence. Yet was still blamed.
It was only when Lee confessed three years later was the possibility of arson raised. Again, whilst confesing to this fire Lee showed his indifference to human life:
“I could hear like old blokes shouting. Don’t ask me how I know’d they was old blokes. but they was not women and babies. I heard a man’s voice shouting ‘God help me’. It was bloody terrible. I knew that the fire was killing people. I knew as I walked along blokes was dying in the fire. I’d killed people before in my fires so I wasn’t that bothered like.”
Bruce Lee next killed two people in a fire on 27th April 1977. a 7 year old boy named Mark Jordan and a 13 year old disabled girl called Deborah Harper. He squirted paraffin through the letterbox of the house on Belgrave Terrace, igniting a blaze in the living room. Out of 7 people in the house that evening, three adults and four children. Five of them managed to make it out to safety.
Brave Mark had gone back in, in an attempt to help Deborah escape, but both had tragically been overcome by smoke fumes and died. Mark was later recommended for a posthumous bravery award. The cause of this fire was thought to have been one of the adults smoking and falling asleep. But again there was little evidence to support this theory.
Brentwood Hills fire
Brentwood Villas, Reynoldson Street was the next scene of horror, on 6th January 1978. 24 year old Christine Dixon was talking to a neighbour outside when she noticed smoke and flames coming from an upstairs window. Inside were her ill husband and four sons. Christine instinctively ran in to save her family.
But only Christine’s husband managed to escape, along with their baby son. Christine was killed in the fire, along with her sons Mark, 5; Steven,4; and Michael, 16 months. The inquest later was to suspect that the elder boys had started the fire themselves with matches and lighter fluid, but this was strongly denied by Mr Dixon. In his favoured method, Lee had squirted paraffin through the letter box and then set matches to ignite it. He was to claim:
“I had to go to the Bible after that one”
Christine was awarded a posthumous award for bravery, and the baby she had saved was raised by her mother. Bruce Lee had wiped out an entire family for the simple reason that he had.
Following this, Lee’s next fatal fire was his last. which claimed the life of the Hastie children.
Sagar and his team decided to test Lee’s claims. They considered the possibility that Lee may have been a fantasist. But although Lee could not be specific in many dates and times of his fires, he knew exactly where each one had been. A check of his story revealed that there had indeed been fires in the locations he had described.
They decided to take him around Hull in a police car. Asking him to take them to the locations that he described without any prompting. He could do this each time, and to test how much truth Bruce Lee was telling. They took him to a location where there had been a fire but someone else had already confessed to and been convicted of it.
Bruce Lee vehemously denied ever setting a fire at the location. Sagar and his team knew then that Lee was indeed telling the truth, and in October 1980 he was charged with twenty six counts of murder. Various counts of arson, and two counts of grievous bodily harm in the case of the Fenton fire. Lee was reportedly happy with this, and even when a solicitor advised him to recant his confessions, Lee refused to do so, instead dictating a statement where he again accepted all responsibility for the fires.
After psychiatrists had examined Lee and determined that although he was a pyromaniac. He was fit to plead and he stood trial in Leeds Crown Court in January 1981. Lee pleaded not guilty to 26 charges of murder, but pleaded guilty to 26 counts of manslaughter. 11 counts of arson and the counts of GBH that he was charged with.
This was accepted by the crown, with Mr Justice Tudor Evans stating that Lee was. “a psychopath and an immediate danger to the public”, and he was ordered to be detained indefinitely under the Mental Health Act. He was taken first to Liverpool’s Park Lane Special Hospital, but was then later transferred to Rampton Secure Hospital. He remains incarcerated to this day.
Following Lee’s conviction, articles in the Sunday Times newspaper raised questions about the validity of some of his claims. Even though he had fully admitted his culpability in a convincing manner. It was suggested that police had used Lee’s low intelligence against him. So, coerced him into confessing to crimes that, because of his disabilities. He could not have had the mobility to have committed.
It was also suggested that police had falsified witness statements. Something that Ronald Sagar strongly denied and actually successfully sued the Sunday Times newspaper for libel for. The Wensley Lodge fire, in which eleven people had died, was however. Concluded to have been accidental following a public enquiry in 1983. Lee’s 11 convictions for manslaughter in this case were quashed as a result. Yet he has never ceased to accept his responsibility for the fire.
Following the result of this public enquiry, the question was raised. How much reliance could be given to Lee’s confessions? Apart from the forensic evidence that supported his confession to the Hastie fire, there was little physical evidence. Apart from Lee’s confessions in each remaining case, and although he was convincing in his accounts of the fires, there were no witnesses who could place him at the scene at the time.
There was also the fact that although Lee had used paraffin in all of his fires. Only the Hastie fire was suspected from the start as arson. Bruce Lee was not a sophisticated arsonist. He would just simply squirt paraffin around and light it. Would experienced fire investigators have missed evidence of arson in each case, it was argued?
Yet this may be harsh criticism. The areas in which Lee set his fires were poor areas, where open fires were still commonplace in houses. Smoke alarms were nowhere as commonplace as they are nowadays. Even the furniture in said households was often made from cheap, highly flammable material. As a result, house fires were quite common, and it is easy to see how Lee was able to hide his crimes. Albeit with some luck also.
It was not in doubt that Lee was a pyromaniac, indeed, he told Ronald Sagar. Initially just how devoted he was. He loved fires and if there was a fire burning somewhere, Lee would inevitably be there as an onlooker. It is therefore possible that Lee could have learned the dates and locations of the fires he confessed to (which he was indeed vague about the date and chronology of) and elaborated an account of how he caused them.
Was it all attention seeking, and Lee did not necessarily set the fires that he confessed to? Yet, even when his defence team appealed against his convictions. Bruce Lee remained adamant that he had been the cause of every fire he confessed to. Claims which he adheres to, to this day.
There has always been a lack of publicity concerning this case. Perhaps because the convictions were for manslaughter rather than murder, perhaps because of Bruce Lee’s relative youth and mental health at the time of his conviction. Or maybe perhaps, that not only was his trial short due to his guilty plea. But because it was overshadowed by the arrest of the Yorkshire Ripper in the same month. Perhaps because of this, Lee is often overlooked in a list of Britain’s most prolific killers.
Why did Bruce Lee do this
What then, were Lee’s motives? It can be argued that they were mixed. On one hand, Lee set fires purely because of his love and fascination for them, and the fact that anyone died in the fires was immaterial. Bruce Lee wouldn’t have cared if anyone was in the buildings or not.
Yet on the other hand, the victims who died in the fires were all unable to flee. Either because they were asleep, infirm or disabled, or physically unable to due to age. Lee had also had clashes with a number of the victims. Were they perhaps targeted as a result of a grudge, and had Bruce Lee targeted people who he classed as victims like himself?
Lee was to admit to Ronald Sagar that he hated people and that “fire is my master”. He especially hated people who had a home. Solely because he claimed he had never really had one. Speculation aside, it remains that for whatever reason. Bruce Lee confessed to many fires and was almost proud of his handiwork.
Evolution as an arsonist
He evolved as an offender and is a rarity amongst most serial arsonists. In that he would actually enter the structure he was setting fire to, to set the fire. From carrying a can of petrol around, he evolved and refined his favoured choice of accelerant to paraffin.
Making sure he was able to carry it around in a container that was easily concealable. While being safer, to himself, to use as an accelerant. His favoured method was to create a pool of paraffin, then leave a trail leading away from it and to then make a smaller pool. Giving himself time to light it, then get to safety and to be able to observe his handiwork.
He was able to avoid detection and suspicion in each case, and although he was considered by people as being an odd loner. Tragically he was never considered by anyone as being potentially dangerous. Ronald Sagar was to write a critically acclaimed book about the case upon his retirement. Hull, Hell and Fire, and echoed this.
“He wasn’t seen, because he was a pathetic, insignificant man. It was a dreadful state of affairs. I didn’t show him sympathy, but I feel sorry for him as a human being. Sorry that in this day and age you could have a youngster who no-one cared for. Who could be in such a terrible state.”
Bruce Lee gets married
Bruce George Peter Lee, is a name that rarely appears in the press, only appearing twice of note in the years since his incarceration. In 2005 it was reported that he had been allowed to marry another patient in Rampton Hospital, named Anne-Marie Davis.
He had met her at a disco organised for the residents and from there, they developed a relationship of sorts. This news caused uproar amongst the families of Lee’s victims. But they were somewhat appeased when authorities swiftly pointed out that inmates, whilst allowed to marry, are not allowed to consummate their union.
2016 day release
What caused arguably more uproar was the report in local and UK national press in July 2016. Bruce Lee had been allowed out on day release, albeit supervised. Into the community surrounding the lower security facility in the Home Counties that he had been moved to in 1996.
The Sunday Mirror newspaper reported that Lee had been seen repeatedly out in the community on day release. Laughing and joking with staff. His face was pixellated to retain his anonymity, and the picture is reproduced above.
Ronald Sagar, who died a few years ago now. Was to say of Lee that he wished one day that he may be freed and allowed to rejoin society. To make good on the pre-trial promise that Lee made him of
“I’ll never set fire to another house as long as i live”
Released for good?
But it is unlikely Lee will ever be released to put this to the test. He is now in his 36th year of incarceration. Having spent nearly his entire adult life in a secure institution. He is arguably institutionalized now. There is also the small matter of the magnitude of his monstrous crimes and the feeling that they still provoke to this day.
The areas in which Lee started his fires were poor areas of Hull. But strong community spirited areas, people have never forgotten the horrors that Lee inflicted, unnoticed, during his years of terror. Rosamund Fenton, who was severely injured and suffered a miscarriage in one of Lee’s fires, summed up the feeling when discussing Lee potentially being released.
“I still suffer flashbacks of that night, he ruined me, ruined me for my daughter. She couldn’t even look at me and wouldn’t let me touch her, claiming “You’re not my mummy, where’s my mummy” because i looked so badly burnt. ‘The police always said we’d be kept informed of what was happening with him at every stage. But we’ve heard nothing about this. He’s a danger to society. The thought of him walking about near kids sickens me. He should never be allowed out”
It remains to be seen whether Lee will, or will not, ever be considered safe to be released.
The name of Peter Sutcliffe will almost be a household name amongst those with an interest in crime and the macabre. And there will be a few who don’t know about the terror that the “Yorkshire Ripper” brought to the North of England during the 1970’s and early 1980’s. When he was finally caught, just two days into the new -year in January 1981. His arrest brought an end to one of the most high profile, horrific and prolific killing sprees in British criminal history. Coverage of Sutcliffe’s arrest, and revelations about his life and confessions dominated the British press at the time. And because they so dominated, another killer who was put away for his crimes just 18 days after Sutcliffe’s arrest went largely un-noticed. It is a worthy case to recount, for the person in question is one of the most unique figures in British criminal history. He is arguably the UK’s worst serial killer, and he too, struck in Yorkshire.
The UK’s worst serial killer that you’ve never heard of.
“A FAMILY OF FUCKING RUBBISH, WE ALL HATE YOU. YOU SHOULD ALL LIVE ON AN ISLAND (DEVIL’S ISLAND). BUT IM NOT KIDDING BUT I PROMISED YOU A BOMB AND BY HELL I’M NOT KIDDING. WHY DON’T YOU JUST FLIT WHILE YOU’VE GOT THE CHANCE. IF WE CANT GET YOU OUT NORMALLY THEN WE’LL BASTARD WELL BOMB YOU OUT, AND THAT’S TOO GOOD FOR YOU”
The above message was a warning scrawled on a piece of cardboard taken from a Cornflakes packet. It summed up how by 1979, the name “Hastie” was infamous to the residents of Selby Street, in Hull, East Yorkshire.
The Hastie family lived at no 12 Selby Street, and consisted of parents Tommy and Edith Hastie, and their seven children. Four sons and three daughters. Tommy Hastie was a habitual criminal with a long criminal record, and the entire Hastie family seemed destined to follow in his footsteps.
Being involved in vandalism and theft and having many run ins with the neighbours throughout the 1970’s. They were commonly known as a “problem family” throughout the local area and were feared and detested in equal measure. As is evident by the anonymous message that was received by the family in late November 1979.
By the beginning of December 1979, Tommy Hastie was in the midst of serving his latest prison sentence, for burglary of a local sports club. So Edith and the rest of the Hastie’s were home alone.
On the night of 04 December 1979 all of the Hastie daughters were staying with nearby relatives, leaving just Edith and the four boys. Charlie aged 15, Paul aged 12, Thomas aged 9, and Peter aged 8. It was just approaching midnight and the entire Hastie family were asleep. Someone crept up to the house, poured paraffin over the porch and through the letterbox, and set it alight.
The house was soon an inferno, and although Edith and Thomas Hastie managed to get out to safety, the fire was ultimately to claim the lives of Charlie, Paul and Peter Hastie. All three suffered horrific burns over 75-80 percent of their bodies in the fire.
The boys all died over the following few days, in the burns unit of Wakefield’s Pinderfields Hospital. Police were summoned when fire service investigators at the scene were able to determine almost instantly that the fire had not been an accident. There were used matches found on the porch, and an overwhelming smell of paraffin. As well as a pool of paraffin nearby where someone had set a can down.
But the resulting murder investigation, led by Detective Superintendent Ronald Sagar. Faced an uphill battle from the start. The Hastie family were hated and feared by all in the area. So there seemed to be no shortage of suspects as to who could have wished them harm. Sagar was to comment at the time.
“Never before have I encountered such hatred and dislike for a family”
Police focused at first upon the theory that the author of the “devil’s island” note had made good on their threat against the family. As a result handwriting samples were taken from hundreds of people living in the area.
A match was quickly found, but the author was ultimately ruled out. It transpired that the author was a frail old lady who had been constantly terrorised and had property damaged by the Hastie boys. She was a churchgoer, and thought that writing a letter filled with swear words “would be the only type of language they would understand”. She had used cardboard from a Cornflakes packet to save on the cost of a stamp.
The funeral of the Hastie children took place on 4th January 1980. With a procession led down Selby Street. There were many onlookers to the procession, but a distinct lack of mourners and a very apparent lack of sympathy. Believing that however extreme, the family had only got what had been deserved. Local television cameras were there to capture the moment when a hysterical Edith Hastie was to shout to the crowd.
“Which one of you fucking murdering bastards did this? It was one of you!”
Six months later, police enquiries had drawn a blank. Almost every different theory and line of enquiry possible had been explored and ruled out. Including the theory that Edith or one of the Hastie daughters themselves had started the fire. And the possibility that the real target of the fire was the next door house, which was a known drug den.
Ron Sagar and his team were under pressure, the enquiry was going nowhere, and with manpower needed to be redirected. After six months the enquiry team were left with just one unexplored line of enquiry. Enquiries about the Hastie boys had revealed rumours that the eldest boy, Charlie, was involved in the local “rent boy” scene. Charlie was said to behave indecently with local homosexual men for money. Perhaps the reason behind the horrific fire stemmed from this?
Local homosexuals were questioned in an attempt to establish the truth of these rumours. And in June 1980, a local 19 year old labourer who was questioned named Bruce Lee confirmed that not only did he know Charlie Hastie. But he had indeed been involved in “indecent sexual behaviour” with him.
When pressed as to what this meant, Lee retorted “you know, mucking about, wanking and that”. Lee was suprisingly not charged with any offence stemming from these revelations, and was released. After learning that the rumours about Charlie Hastie were true and he was indeed involved in the “rent boy” scene. Sagar decided to adopt a different tactic.
Sagar decided to bring in known homosexuals for questioning, and accuse each in turn of setting the Selby Street fire. Hoping that the real killer would break down and confess. This was a desperate strategy, but it was all that Sagar had left that he could do.
The nineteenth such of these interviewees that police questioned was Bruce Lee, and Sagar said to him.
“Bruce, I’ll be quite blunt with you. I think that you started that fire at the Hastie family’s house, and that indecency with Charlie is probably the cause of it all somehow”
It transpired that Lee knew the Hastie family well, and he claimed that the fire was set “to teach Charlie a lesson”. Charlie, Lee claimed, had been threatening him and extorting money from him after the pair had indulged in mutual masturbation.
With Charlie threatening to go to the police because he was after all a minor. Lee also claimed he felt a grudge against the family because he had constantly asked 16 year old Angie Hastie to be his girlfriend – and had been mocked and refused each time. In fact, he was constantly mocked and ridiculed by the Hastie family as a favourite target for bullying.
Confession to the fire.
On 04 December 1979, Lee claimed he had gone to the Hastie house late at night. Watching first from the shadows created by the opposite motorway flyover “for a good time until it went real quiet”.
He described in detail approaching the door and pouring paraffin through the letterbox. Then struggling to light the fire with matches. On the third attempt, he managed to ignite a newspaper and pushed it through the letterbox. Then retreated back to the shadows he had been watching from to watch his handiwork. Lee was able to give investigators such correct intimate detail of the scene of the fire, and how it had been ignited, that there was little doubt he was responsible for the fire. Only the arsonist and the investigators themselves knew the exact forensics.
What kind of person, and what must occur in a life to set a person on the road to committing such heinous actions? It suggests a disturbed mind, unhappiness, anger and bitterness at the world. And someone with a very poor and sad life in general. Bruce Lee had all of these.
He was born Peter George Dinsdale in Manchester on 31st July 1960. The unwanted child of a prostitute named Doreen and a father that the child never met. Doreen had little if no love for the child, cruelly referring to him as “the freak”. Because young Peter had been born with epilepsy, a deformed right arm and congenital spastic hemiplegia in his right limbs.
Between the ages of six months old and three years old, young Peter was cared for by his maternal grandmother, as his mother didn’t want him around. Even his grandmother tired of him by this time, and the boy spent the rest of his childhood living periodically in various care homes. Occasionally back with his mother and her common law husband.
Who Dinsdale got on reasonably well with. He attended a special school until he was 16, but suffered with what are now classed as learning difficulties and left school with no qualifications and an IQ measuring just 68.
Lee was sporadically employed after leaving school, working such menial roles as labouring, assisting at the local Speedway track and at the gate for Hull Kingston Rovers on match days, and at a local pig farm. Co workers at the establishments Lee was employed at remember him as being a sad character. Quiet and unassuming and often mocked by those who knew him. Yet he never used to stand up for himself, he would just say nothing.
As a result of such a chaotic and sad life. Dinsdale was often penniless, poorly clothed, and had few friends. It was whilst living in the various care homes that he was introduced to homosexuality. Which he would partake in, and became involved in the local rent boy scene.
Where he eventually met Charlie Hastie, amongst others. He would often have to resort to sleeping with men just to earn money to eat, but it is possible that this was also as a need for affection in whatever form he could get it. Perhaps what sums up what a tragic figure Lee had become due to his haphazard life was the fact that he was known by all who knew him as “Daft Peter”.
He was considered by all who knew him as an odd loner. Odd, but not dangerous. Perhaps in what was an attempt to overcome this and to transform himself, by age 19 he changed his name legally by deed poll, to Bruce George Peter Lee. In adoration of the kung-fu star that he idolized.
But this was after all, just a name change. He was still the same mocked and ridiculed youth. Even with a “tough guy” name change the impression he gave to people didn’t change. Ronald Sagar was to describe his first impressions of Lee as follows:
“He was…..not a normal young man, he was deformed, his right arm and right leg were deformed, he had a limp, he had a habit of holding his right arm across his chest. He was poorly dressed, he was clearly undernourished, and on first impressions one had to feel sorry for him”
Not just one.
Lee admitted to the detective that he had started hundreds of fires over the years. He explained that his first fire had been in 1969 when he was aged just 9. On that occasion Lee burnt a shopping centre down to the ground. Causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.
Lee enjoyed the thrill of setting fires, and explained that he favoured paraffin as an accelerant. He would break into premises, or sometimes just squirt paraffin through any gaps or letterboxes he could find. Then he would strike a match and retreat to watch his handiwork.
Lee claimed that he would travel around, either on foot or by pushbike. Always armed with a washing up liquid bottle of paraffin, and would set fires “when I began to feel a tingling in my fingers”. Lee was able to hide in plain sight amongst the confusion of his fires, and enjoyed being in the crowds of onlookers. Watching the emergency services dealing with the destruction he had caused. He admitted to Sagar.
“I like fires I do. I like fires. Fire is my master. I am devoted to fire and despise people”
Thats the same guy.
Following his confession to being responsible for the Hastie fire. Lee was charged with three counts of murder and one count of arson. He was remanded to Hull prison awaiting trial. That may have been the end of the investigation, but when the local papers reported that a person had been arrested for the Hastie fire murders, and a picture of Bruce Lee published, it opened a new chapter – and the floodgates.
On the night of 21st June 1979, nearly six months before the Hastie fire. Rosabell Fenton was preparing for bed when she saw a figure of a man stood by her front door. The figure moved away when he became aware that he had been seen.
She was convinced it was “Daft Peter”. Who she knew and had shouted at earlier that day as he was loitering on her porch acting suspiciously. Thinking no more about it, Rosabell went to bed but was awakened shortly later by neighbours shouting “FIRE”, as her house was ablaze.
Rosabell immediately went to the bedroom of her 7 year old daughter to try to get her out to safety. But the fire was too fierce and both mother and daughter had to take shelter in the corner of the sitting room. They were eventually rescued in time, but both Rosabell and her daughter were badly injured in this fire.
Rosabell was heavily pregnant at the time, and sadly suffered a miscarriage. She also had to spend eleven months recovering in hospital and had to have plastic surgery. The cause of the fire at the time was blamed on a discarded cigarette dropped by a neighbour who had left the house shortly before Rosabell had gone to bed.
But Rosabell remained convinced that this was wrong and that the fire had been deliberately set. More so, she was convinced that it had been set by “Daft Peter”. It was only a year later when a picture of “Bruce Lee” appeared in the local press following developments in the Selby Street fire did she recognise both him and “Daft Peter” as being the same person, and voiced her suspicions to the police.
Detective Sagar visited Lee whilst he was on remand to question him about this fire. When this was put to Lee, he readily confessed to breaking into the house and setting this fire, saying.
“I just did it. Someone I knew didn’t like her and, well, I just did it”
Knowing that he was already dealing with a self confessed pyromaniac, Sagar pressed Lee further. He asked Lee if there was a possibility that any of the other fires that he had started in the past may have caused injury, or worse, even death.
Sagar wasn’t expecting any confessions, but what Lee had to say chilled Sagar to the bone. It was the start of a tale so shocking that it was to eventually lead to the name Bruce George Peter Lee being ranked in the Guinness Book of Records. As one of Britain’s worst ever multiple killers. Pausing for a long time, Lee replied.
Updated: 06/02/2020. Ted Bundy assumed a result of incest, was first named Theodore Robert Cowell. Born on November 24, 1946, to Eleanor Louise Cowell (1924–2012, known as Louise). At the Elizabeth Lund Home for Unwed Mothers in Burlington, Vermont. Ted Bundys biological father’s identity has never been confirmed. Although His birth certificate is said to hold a salesman and Air Force veteran named Lloyd Marshall, as his Father.
Though other accounts state this father is listed as “Unknown”. Louise claimed she had been seduced by an old money war veteran. Named Jack Worthington. The King County Sheriff’s Office has worthington listed as Ted Bundys father in their files. Some of Bundy’s family members have expressed suspicions that Bundy might have been fathered by Louise’s own violent, abusive father, Samuel Cowell. but no material evidence has ever been found to support this.
For the first three years of his life, Bundy lived in the Philadelphia home of his maternal grandparents. Samuel (1898–1983) and Eleanor Cowell (1895–1971). Who raised him as their son to avoid the social stigma that accompanied birth outside of wedlock, at that time. Family, friends, and even young Ted were told that his grandparents were his parents and that his mother was his older sister.
He eventually discovered the truth. Although he had varied recollections of the circumstances. He told a girlfriend that a cousin showed him a copy of his birth certificate after calling him a “bastard. “ But he told biographers Stephen Michaud and Hugh Aynesworth. That he found the certificate himself.
Biographer and true crime writer Ann Rule, who knew Bundy personally. Believed that he did not find out until 1969. When he located his original birth record in Vermont. Bundy expressed a lifelong resentment toward his mother for never talking to him about his real father, and for leaving him to discover his true parents for himself.
In some interviews, Bundy spoke warmly of his grandparents and told Rule that he “identified with,” “respected,” and “clung to” his grandfather. In 1987, however, he and other family members told attorneys that Samuel Cowell was a tyrannical bully and a bigot who hated blacks, Italians, Catholics, and Jews, beat his wife, the family dog, and swung neighborhood cats by their tails.
He once threw Louise’s younger sister Julia down a flight of stairs for oversleeping. He sometimes spoke aloud to unseen presences, and at least once flew into a violent rage when the question of Bundy’s paternity was raised.
Bundy described his grandmother as a timid and obedient woman. Who periodically underwent electroconvulsive therapy for depression and feared to leave their house toward the end of her life. Bundy occasionally exhibited disturbing behavior, even at that early age. Julia recalled awakening one day from a nap to find herself surrounded by knives from the Cowell kitchen. The three-year-old Ted Bundy was standing by the bed, smiling.
In 1950, Louise changed her surname from Cowell to Nelson. And at the urging of multiple family members, she left Philadelphia with her son to live with cousins Alan and Jane Scott in Tacoma, Washington.
In 1951 Louise met Johnny Culpepper Bundy (1921–2007), a hospital cook, at an adult singles night at Tacoma’s First Methodist Church. They married later that year and Johnny Bundy formally adopted Ted. Johnny and Louise conceived four children of their own, and although Johnny tried to include his adoptive son in camping trips and other family activities, Ted remained distant. He later complained to his girlfriend that Johnny wasn’t his real father. “wasn’t very bright,” and “didn’t make much money.”
Bundy had different recollections of Tacoma when he spoke to his biographers. When he talked to Michaud and Aynesworth, he described how he roamed his neighborhood. Picking through trash barrels in search of pictures of naked women. When he spoke to Polly Nelson, he explained how he perused detective magazines. Crime novels, and true crime documentaries for stories that involved sexual violence. Particularly when the stories were illustrated with pictures of dead or maimed bodies.
In a letter to Rule, Bundy asserted that he “never, ever read fact-detective magazines. And shuddered at the thought that anyone would. The conversation with Michaud, Bundy described how he would consume large quantities of alcohol and “canvass the community” late at night. In search of undraped windows where he could observe women undressing, or “whatever else could be seen.”
Ted Bundys social life
Bundy also varied the accounts of his social life. He told Michaud and Aynesworth. That he “chose to be alone” as an adolescent. Because he was unable to understand interpersonal relationships. Bundy claimed that he had no natural sense of how to develop friendships. “I didn’t know what made people want to be friends,” he said. “I didn’t know what underlay social interactions.” Classmates from Woodrow Wilson High School told Rule, however. That Bundy was “well known and well liked. ” there, “a medium-sized fish in a large pond.”
Downhill skiing was Bundy’s only significant athletic avocation. enthusiastically pursuing the activity, by using stolen equipment and forged lift tickets.
During high school, Bundy was arrested at least twice on suspicion of burglary and auto theft. When he reached age 18, the details of the incidents were expunged from his record. Which is customary in Washington.

Jeffrey dahmer, also known as the Milwaukee cannibal or the Milwaukee monster. Was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA on May 21st 1960. He became, one of the worlds worst serial killers and sex offenders of all time. Dahmer killed 17 men and children between 1978 – 1991, before being beaten to death by a fellow inmate in 1994.
The murders involved rape, dismemberment, necrophilia, cannibalism and the permanent preservation of body parts. Usually all or part of the skeleton.
“the objective wasn’t to kill but to have complete control over another person, not having to consider their wishes…being able to keep them there, as long as I wanted”
Jeffrey Dahmers first murder
Steven Mark Hicks
Dahmers first murder came in June 1978, when he picked up a young hitchhiker, 18yr old, Steven Mark Hicks.
The two went back to Dahmers House to drink and listen to music. Everything was going fine until Steven wanted to leave. Dahmer didn’t want Hicks to leave, so he struck him twice from behind with a 10lb dumbell. In a desperate attempt at keeping him there.
However, when Hicks fell unconscious and hadn’t died, Dahmer then strangled him to death with the bar of the dumbell.
Once Hicks was dead Dahmer removed the clothes from Hicks, stood over his dead body and masturbated. The next day in Dahmers basement, he dissected the corpse and buried the remains in his back garden.
But, to hide the evidence of the murder even more. A few weeks later he dug up Hicks’ remains and separated the flesh from the bones. Then dissolved the flesh in acid and flushed it down the toilet. While smashing the bones with a sledgehammer into dust and scattering them in nearby woodlands.
Six weeks after the murder, Dahmer enrolled in the Ohio state University. Where he hoped to major in business, but because of his excessive drinking. A way Dahmer said “drowned out the strong urges to kill again”. His university time was short lived and mostly unproductive.
He was known as the crazy, weird but fun guy. With the term “pulling a Dahmer” being used when someone does something bizzare.
When his father Lionel made a surprise visit to the dorm, he found his sons room littered in empty alcohol cans and bottles. Dahmer ended up dropping out of university after just 3 months of his second term and enlisted in the U.S Army in 1979, under the pressure of his worried Father.
While in the army Dahmer trained as a medic and in 1979 was stationed in West Germany as a combat medic. In his first year he was reported to be an “average or slightly above average soldier”.
However, two soldiers later came forward in 2010 with rape allegations named Billy Capshaw and Preston Davis. One former soldier reports, he was repeatedly raped by Dahmer. Over a 17 month period while they were both stationed in West Germany. The second claims to have been drugged and raped on one occasion.
In 1981 because of Dahmers non stop drinking, he was released from the army and received an honourable discharge. Deemed safe for civilian life and unaffected by his time spent in service.
After the army
Once debriefed, Dahmer was given a plane ticket, which he could use to travel anywhere in the country. He chose to go to Miami, because it was warm and he couldn’t face his father.
Now living by his own means, he got a job in a delicatessen and rented a room in a motel. Again, his drinking got the better of him and his pay cheques were going on alcohol, so he was evicted from the motel due to lack of payment.
Eventually, after failing to live by his own means. He was forced to contact his father and return home in the same year of 1981.
2 weeks after returning home and living with his father, Dahmer was arrested for being drunk and disorderly. Fined $60 and received a suspended 10 day jail sentence. his father had finally had enough and towards the end of 1981, sent him to live with his grandmother.
While living with his grandmother, his father hoped Dahmer would change his ways. As he looked up to her and wouldn’t want to dissapoint his her. The plan worked for a while, he would go to church and help out his grandmother and eventually got a job.
However, he was still drinking but hiding it better. and in mid 1982 he was arrested for indecent exposure to 25 women and children and fined $50. Then after just 10 months, he was sacked from his job.
Jump forward to 1985, after living off his grandmother for a couple of years. He got a job as a mixer at the ambrosia chocolate factory, working the night shift.
Not long after getting his new job, while reading in a local library. Dahmer was thrown a note, from another man, offering to perform oral sex on him. He declined the offer, but this started to stir up his twisted fantasies of control and dominance.
Then started visiting the gay bars and Bath houses in the area. Once he also stole a male mannequin, which he used for sexual pleasure. The mannequin, somewhat, full filed his need to be in total control of another “person”. Until his grandmother found it and told him to get rid.
Dahmer then started visiting the bathhouses on a regular basis, using it as a place to pick up guys for gay sex. During the sex however, he became annoyed that his partners would move. So he started drugging them, liquor laced with sedatives was his preferred way. Then he would rape their unconscious bodies. Which eventually got him banned from the bathhouses and ended his supply of gay men.
Not long after being banned from the bathhouses, his sexual desires were obviously at an extremely high point. But with his supply of men being cut, he decided it would be a good idea to dig up a recently buried 18 year old man, take the corpse home and have sex with it. He had read about the funeral in a newspaper, and one night shortly after went to the cemetery to dig the coffin up, but found the soil was too hard. So he eventually gave up on the idea.
In 1986 he was again arrested for indecent exposure, after masturbating in front of two 12 year old boys. However, the charge was changed to disorderly conduct, after Dahmer changed his story. He was sentenced to one year probation in 1987, with instructions to undergo counselling.
While living with his grandmother in 1987, Dahmer rented out a room in a hotel for a night. With the intention to take a man back from a local gay bar, drug him and rape him as he lay unconscious.
Which he did with a 25 year old man named Steven tuomi. Dahmer claims he never intended to kill steven but the following morning, when he woke up, he found Steven laying underneath him. With his chest crushed in, his body covered in bruises and blood coming out of his mouth. Dahmer also had extreme bruising on his fists and forearms but had no memory of killing Steven.
He was then faced with having to dispose of the body, so he bought a suitcase to put the corpse in and left the hotel unnoticed. He took the body to his grandmothers house and one week later severed the limbs and head from the torso. Again taking the flesh from the bones. This time however, he put the flesh into binbags and smashed the bones covered in a sheet with a sledgehammer, then disposed of the evidence in the bin.
Except for the severed head. Which he kept for about 2 weeks wrapped in a blanket. Untill, he decided to boil the head in bleach and other substances, to preserve the skull and keep Steven with him. He would then use the skull as a stimulus for masturbation, but because of the method used in the boiling. The skull became too brittle, so he destroyed and disposed of it.
Full on serial killer
Following the murder of Steven Tuomi is when Dahmer’s inner demons were let loose. He started actively looking for victims, usually in gay bars or in and around those areas.
Two months after killing and disposing of Steven, Dahmer found a 14 year old prostitute called James Doxtator.
Dahmer offered James $50 in exchange for him posing in nude photos. Which James accepted, and accompanied Dahmer back to his grandmother’s house. Where they had sex before Dahmer drugged and strangled the young boy to death.
After leaving the body in the cellar for one week. He began the dismemberment and disposal method used with his last victim. Again keeping and boiling the head, Untill, as before, it became too brittle and needed disposing of.
Dahmer found 22 year old Richard outside the local gay bars in March 1988, a possible prostitute. This time Dahmer offered $50 in exchange to simply spend the rest of night with him.
But, when they got to Dahmer’s residence, he drugged and strangled richard with a leather belt. Killing him and performing oral sex on the corpse.
Within 24 hours, the body was dismembered and disposed of in the bin. except for the head, which again was boiled, bleached and ultimately destroyed.
Close call, now move out
One month later in April, Dahmer lured another victim back to his grandmother’s house. After drugging the victim, Dahmer became suspicious that his grandmother knew he wasn’t alone. So instead of killing him, he waited until the man was fully unconscious and dropped him off at the local hospital.
Later that year in September. due to Dahmer constantly bringing men back for sex and the weird smells coming from his room. His grandmother asked him to leave the house and get his own place.
Later that month Dahmer moved into his new flat. And the very next day, He lured a 13 year old boy back to the flat to take naked pictures. He didn’t kill the boy but sexually fondled him and was arrested. Subsequently being convicted of 2nd degree sexual assault and enticing a child for immoral purposes. Sentencing for the assault was suspended until May, during that time in March he moved back to live with his grandmother.
In March 1989, Dahmer met his next victim, Anthony Sears, in a gay bar close to closing time. Dahmer says, on that night he wasn’t looking to commit a crime but that “he just started talking to me”.
Dahmer lured Anthony back to his grandmother’s house and they had oral sex. After that dahmer drugged and strangled Anthony. The next day Dahmer put the corpse into the bathtub. decapitated it and then proceeded to skin the corpse. Removing all the flesh from the body and destroying the bones, then disposing of it all in the bin.
On this occasion though he kept the head and genitalia, preserving them in acetone. He even took them with him when he moved house a year later.
In May 1989, he was sentenced to five years probation, one year in the House of correction with work release and required to register as a sex offender.
He was released on parole two months before his scheduled date and began his five years probation. After being released, he temporarily moved back in with his grandmother, before moving into his own flat in May 1990.
New home, new Dahmer
Well not quite, one week after moving house and taking Anthony Sears’ mummified remains with him, he had killed his sixth victim.
32 year old male prostitute Raymond Smith, went back to Dahmers’ flat for sex at a price of $50. Dahmer then gave Raymond a drink laced with 7 sleeping pills and manually strangled him.
After purchasing a Polaroid camera the next day, Dahmer took pictures of the corpse in sexual positions. When he was done, he then put the body in the bathtub. dismembered the limbs and head from the torso and began to boil the legs, arms and genitalia in a steel kettle with soilex. So he could easily remove the flesh from the bones in his sink.
He then dissolved the skeleton in a tub of acid, keeping the skull. Which he spary painted and kept in a metal filing cabinet, on a black towel, next to the mummified skull of Anthony Sears.
One week later, Dahmer lured another potential victim back to his flat. But he accidently mixed up the drinks and ended up druging himself. When he woke up, he discovered his potential victim had stolen $300, various items of clothes and a watch. Dahmer later reported that he had been robbed to his parole officer.
An aqcuaitance of Dahmer named Edward Smith, was drugged and strangled in June 1990. However on this occasion, to try and better preserve the skull. After removing the flesh from the skeleton, Dahmer decided he would try to freeze the remains for several months. The freezing didn’t have the desired effect and the skeleton, but not the skull, was dissolved in acid.
Dahmer tried to dry the skull by placing it in the oven but this would unknowingly make the skull explode, destroying every last part of Edward Smith. Later speaking to the police he would explain how he felt “rotten” not being able to keep any of Edwards remains.
“It was my way of remembering their appearance, their physical beauty. I also wanted to keep them… if I couldn’t keep them there with me whole, I at least could keep their skeletons.”
Jeffrey dahmer 1993.
Three months later Dahmer met 22 year old Ernest Miller. Who he paid $50 to accompany him back to his flat and listen to his stomach and heart. When Dahmer tried to perform oral sex, Ernest replied” that will cost you extra”.
So, Dahmer then gave Ernest a drink laced with sleeping pills, however at the time he only had two pills left. Which obviously isn’t enough to put a man to sleep, therefore he killed Ernest by slashing his kneck. With the same knife he used to dismember and dissect his previous victims corpses’.
After a few minutes, when Ernest had bled to death. Dahmer then put the corpse in the bathtub and began to dismember the body, while kissing and talking to the severed head.
He then put the heart, biceps, flesh and head into his fridge for later consumption. While boiling the rest, into a jelly like substance using soilex. Again to easily remove the flesh from the bones.
This time he wanted to try a different way to preserve the skeleton. He soaked the bones in a light bleach for 24 hours and left them to dry for a week on a cloth. Removing the severed head from the fridge, he stripped the flesh from the skull and proceeded to paint it and coat with enamel.
Three weeks after killing, dissecting and painting Ernest. He met David Thomas at a shopping mall, who he persuaded to go back to his flat for drinks. With additional money if he would pose naked for photographs.
In a later statement to the police after his arrest, Dahmer said he wasn’t attracted to David. But was afraid he would awake from the drug laden drink angry. So, he strangled him and dismembered the body, purposely not retaining any of the remains. Dahmer did however take Polaroids of the dismemberment process and kept them instead.
Over the next five months between October 1990 and February 1991. Dahmer had at least five, unsuccessful attempts, at lurring men back to his flat. Which led to him confiding in his probation officer of suicidal thoughts and loneliness. During this time he began plans to build an altar, made from the skulls and skeletons of his victims.
After watching 17 year old Curtis Straughter, standing at a bus stop in February 1991.he approached him and successfully lured him back to his flat, with the promise of money in exchange for nude photos and sex.
Dahmer drugged, then strangled Curtis with a leather strap. Again dismembering the body in the bathtub, while photographing the process. Keeping the hands, genitals and skull.
Two months later in April, Dahmer met Errol lindsey, who was on his way to get a key cut. He pursuaded Errol to return back to his flat. Where he gave him the drug laced drink but this time, while Errol was unconscious. He drilled a hole into his head and poured hydrochloric acid into his skull. In an experiment to render his victim to a permanent, submissive zombie like state.
However, when Errol awoke, he spoke and said “I have a headache, what time is it?”. In response Dahmer drugged him again and strangled him. He then decapitated the body keeping the skull. He also skinned the flesh from the corpse carefully, placing it in a solution of water and salt for several weeks. In the hope, that it would preserve the skin for him to keep but it became frayed and brittle, so Dahmer reluctantly had to dispose of it.
Some time during 1991, Dahmers fellow apartment block residents started complaining to the manager. That there was a foul oddur emanating from Dahmers flat and could occasionally hear a chainsaw and loud banging. When the manager contacted Dahmer about the complaints, he blamed his fridge. Saying it had broken down and the food had become “spoiled”. On another occasion he said it was his tropical fish, that had recently died and he would take care of the problem.
Anthony ‘Tony’ Hughes
Being both deaf and mute, Anthony would not be what many people think of when they consider a Dahmer victim.
however you could not be further wrong, Anthony and Dahmer knew each other for a few weeks prior to his death. Dahmer would later go on to say that he and Anthony were in a relationship and what they had together, “was the closest he could of ever felt to another person” .
In May, 1991 Dahmer and Anthony met up as normal however Dahmer had grown paranoid, thinking Anthony was going to leave him.
He was very fond of Anthony and was not prepared to let him go, so when Anthony went to leave to go home. Dahmer gave him one final drink laced with sleeping pills.
“I wish I’d waited to see if he would come back.”
Dahmer did not want to “loose” Anthony. So decided it was time for a new experiment. Whilst Anthony was unconscious, Dahmer drilled a hole into his skull and this time injected the acid into the cranial cavity.
Sadly Hughes would never wake up from this. So to finally seal the deal, Dahmer then strangled Anthony. After leaving the body in his bedroom for a few days, Dahmer would later dissolve the corpse, in his barrel of acid. Along with his next victim, who Dahmer believes saw Tony’s dead body, shortly before his own death.
The 14 year old, younger brother of the 12 year old boy, Dahmer had molested in 1988. Crossed paths with Dahmer in May 1991. When he was offered money to accompany Dahmer back to his flat and have pictures of him taken naked.
At first Konerak was reluctant, but later changed his mind and went with Dahmer. Where he posed for two pictures in his underwear, before being drugged and falling unconscious.
Dahmer performed oral sex on the boy and again, tried his failed experiment of drilling a hole into the skull and pouring hydrochloric acid into the frontal lobe. He then took the boy into his bedroom, where lay naked the dead body of 31 year old Tony Hughes, who Dahmer had killed three days earlier.
According to Dahmer, he believed the boy saw the body. But didnt react due to the drugs and acid. He then lay next to the unconscious Konerak drinking a few beers, before going to a bar to continue.
When on his way home with more beers in hand. Dahmer noticed Konerak sitting on the corner at the Roadside of his apartment block, talking in Lao, with three concerned young women standing around him.
Dahmer approached the trio and explained that Konerak was his friend. And started leading him off by the arm back to his flat. The three women dissuaded Dahmer and said they had already phoned the police.
This should of been the end
When the police arrived Dahmer told them that Konerak was his 19 year old drunk boyfriend, and they’d had an argument. He explained that Konerak often walked out and started a scene when he was intoxicated and that there was nothing more to it.
Meanwhile the three women were trying to draw the attention of the police to Koneraks bleeding buttocks. And that he had struggled against Dahmers attempt to lead him back to his flat. The officers harshly told the women to “butt out” “shut the hell up” and “mind their own business” as the incident was “domestic”.
The officers then wrapped Konerak in a towel and escorted him back to Dahmers flat. Where Dahmer attempted to verify their love, by showing the officers the two Polaroid pictures, taken the evening before.
When one officer commented on the foul oddur emanating from the flat, Dahmer invited the officer in to investigate. While investigating, the officer peeked his head into the bedroom and didn’t really take a good look. If he had of done he would of seen the corpse of Tony Hughes.
Satisfied that all was well, the two offers left, telling Dahmer to “take good care” of Konerak. After the officers left dahmer then drugged and injected more acid into his skull, which was fatal and killed Konerak.
The next day spent by Dahmer was devoted to dismembering and disposing of the two corpses. While retaining the skulls, to add to his collection.
The next month in June 1991,Dahmer travel to Chicago. Where he met 20 year old Matt Turner at a bus stop. Dahmer explained to Matt that he was a professional photographer and should travel to Milwaukee for a photo shoot.
Accepting the offer. Matt visited Dahmer at his flat in Milwaukee, expecting a photo shoot but instead he was drugged, strangled and dismembered.
Dahmer put the internal organs, genitalia and head into separate bags then placed them in the freezer for later consumption.
Five days after meeting Matt Turner, Dahmer encountered 23 year old Jeremiah Weinberger, in a bar while still in Chicago.
Dahmer pursuaded Jermiah to return with him back to Milwaukee, promising to spend the weekend together. Which they did, having a good time. Jeremiah decided it was time to leave after after a couple days but Dahmer didn’t want him to go.
So, Dahmer offered him one more drink before he left. Which was drugged in the usual way, once the 23 year old was unconscious Dahmer drilled a hole into his skull. But this time he tried a new method, by injecting boiling water into the cavity.
Surprisingly Jeremiah woke up soon after, so Dahmer once again drugged and injected boiling water into the brain. Which sent Jeremiah into coma, Dahmers new method had worked, to some extent, but two days later Jeremiah died.
Dahmer then dismembered the corpse, taking pictures of the process. Like the last victim, his head and organs went into the freezer and his body into the acid.
In July 1991 Dahmer met 24 year old Oliver Lacy, who was standing by a street corner. After a brief discussion, Oliver was lured back to Dahmers flat, on the promise of money for nude photos.
After a long period of sexual activity, Dahmer drugged Oliver but on this occasion he wanted to try a prolong the time his victim was alive. With unsuccessful attempts at doing this, using chloroform. Dahmer phoned his workplace requesting a day off, which was granted. He then killed Oliver by strangulation.
After killing Oliver, Dahmer then had anal sex with the corpse. After this he took more photos of the body, in various positions that he wasn’t able to do before killing him.
During the dismemberment process the bicep was fried on a skillet and partially eaten. which Dahmer said “tasted like beef”. The heart was preserved in a freezer for later consumption.
The severed head was placed in a refrigerator, found by the police on the day of his arrest.
Four days after initially being granted a day off from work, Dahmer was later fired. He then started watching exorcist 3 continuously before finding his 17th and final victim, 25 year old Joseph Bradehoft.
Finding Joseph at a bus stop, with a crate of beers under his arm was too appealing for Dahmer to ignore. Joseph was lured back to Dahmers flat, under the usual lie of money for photos.
Joseph was killed by strangulation after being drugged by Dahmer. Once Joseph was dead, Dahmer dismembered the body but not all of it, leaving the head in place. He then put the deceased body of Joseph on his bed, with a sheet covering it and left it for two days.
After Two days, Dahmer removed the sheets and he discovered the head was already rotting with maggots. He then severed the head from the body, cleaned it and put it in the fridge.
Disposing of the torso in the acid tank, which still held the remains of two recent victims.
Ironically, the one that escaped death, was arrested 20 years later for murder charges of his own.
This story doesn’t end in tragedy, although Dahmer would probably have argued that it does, at least for him anyway.
The day after killing Joseph in 1991. Dahmer approached three men offering them $100 if they would go with him to his flat. For beers, company and naked photos. Only one of the three men accepted the offer 32 year old, Tracy Edwards.
When Tracy first entered the flat he couldn’t help but notice the foul oddur and many containers of hydrochloric acid. Which Dahmer said was there due to him cleaning bricks.
The two had short meaningless conversation, before Dahmer asked Tracy to “look at my tropical fish”. When Tracy turned his head to get a look, Dahmer slapped a pair of handcuffs on one of Tracy’s wrists.
Tracy, confused asked “what’s happening? ” as Dahmer unsuccessfully, attempted to cuff both his wrists together. Dahmer then asked Tracy to the bedroom, to take naked pictures.
Upon entering the bedroom, Tracy noticed posters of naked men on the walls and the T.V was playing exorcist 3. He also saw a blue, 57 gallon drum in the corner of the bedroom, which had the same foul oddur that he had noticed earlier.
Dahmer then pulled out a knife, the same one used to carve his previous victims. And told Tracy that he intended to take naked photos of him. To play along with Dahmer, Tracy started to unbutton his shirt. He said he would continue if Dahmer would put the knife away and remove the handcuff.
Dahmer then turned his attention to the T.V and started slowly rocking back and fourth, muttering a chant.
Dahmer focused back on Tracy. Placing his head onto Tracys chest and while listening to his heartbeat, With the knife pressing against the intended victim, he said that he was going to eat his heart.
In a panic, Tracy kept telling Dahmer “I’m your friend, you dont need to do this. I’m not going to run away”. While having every intention of escaping through a window, or the unlocked front door, at the first possible opportunity.
Gaining some trust from Dahmer. When Tracy used the toilet he asked if they could move into the living room for beers, where there was air conditioning.
Dahmer agreed to the request and they moved into the living room. Planning his escape, Tracy was keeping a close eye on Dahmer, waiting for him to have a momentary lapse of concentration.
Dahmers finally arrested
As soon as Tracy saw his window of opportunity, he asked to use the toilet again and when he stood up from the couch. -Making sure Dahmer didn’t have anymore handcuffs in hand- punched Dahmer in the face and ran straight for the unlocked front door.
After the five hour, terryfying ordeal. At 11:30pm Tracy had finally escaped, luckily for Tracy there was two police officers on the corner of the street named Rolf Mueller and Robert Rauth. He immediately ran towards them, flagging them down, in an hysterical panic.
Noticing the handcuffs, the police officers asked about them. Tracy started explaining the story, saying some “freak” had attacked him and kept him hostage for five hours.
The officers tried their keys to get the handcuff off, but their keys weren’t a match. Meaning they weren’t police issue handcuffs, this added some credibility to Tracy’s elaborate story. So the officers went with Tracy back to Dahmers property.
Arriving at the property, Dahmer welcomed the trio inside and confirmed, he was the one that placed the handcuff on Tracy’s wrist.
Tracy suddenly shouted “the knifes in the bedroom, he pulled it out on me in there”. Dahmer didn’t respond to this comment. Instead he told officer Mueller, that the key to the handcuffs were in a draw in the bedroom. As Mueller went to retrieve the key, Dahmer attempted to put himself in front, to get the key himself. Officer Rauth then told Dahmer to “back off”.
While in the bedroom, Mueller noted that there was indeed a knife below the bed, he also saw an open draw. When he looked through the draw for the key, he found Polaroid pictures. Which were of human bodies, all in different stages of dismemberment. To his shock, he also noticed that the room he was standing in, was the same room as the pictures. Mueller then took the pictures to show rauth, uttering “these are for real”.
Dahmer saw that the officers had his Polaroid pictures and started to fight them, in an attempt to escape. However the two officers quickly overpowered him, Cuffed his hands behind his back and called in for backup. At this point Mueller opened the refrigerator and found the severed head of a black male on the bottom shelf. Dahmer pinned to floor by Rauth, then turned his head to look at the officers and said. “for what I did, I should be dead”.
Dahmers house of horror
Upon Dahmers arrest, a more detailed search of the apartment, conducted by the Criminal Investigation Bureau. Revealed the true house of horrors, which Dahmer had created.
The Bureau found, a total of four severed heads in Dahmer’s kitchen. A total of seven skulls. Some painted and some bleached were found in Dahmer’s bedroom and inside a closet. In addition, investigators discovered, collected blood drippings on a tray at the bottom of Dahmer’s refrigerator. Plus two human hearts and a portion of arm muscle. each wrapped inside plastic bags upon the shelves. In Dahmer’s freezer, investigators discovered an entire torso, plus a bag of human organs and flesh stuck to the ice at the bottom.
In more parts of the flat, investigators found two complete skeletons, a pair of severed hands. Two severed and preserved penises, a mummified scalp and inside the 57 gallon drum. They found a further three torsos, dissolving in the acid solution. Last but not least, a total of 74 Polaroid pictures, documenting the dismemberment of the body parts found.
“It was more like dismantling someone’s museum than an actual crime scene.”
Chief medical examiner
Beginning in the early hours of July 23, 1991. Dahmer was questioned by Detective Patrick Kennedy about the murders he had committed and the evidence found at his apartment. Over the following two weeks, Kennedy and, later, Detective Patrick Murphy conducted numerous interviews with Dahmer. Which combined to a total of 60 hours. Dahmer waived his right to lawyer throughout the interrogation, adding.
“I created this horror and it only makes sense I put an end to it.”
Jeffrey Dahmer 1991
Dahmer confessed to all 17 murders, admitting that he mostly rendered his victims unconscious, before killing them. He also let them know that, some had died from the effects of boiling water or acid injected into their brain.
With no memory of killing Tuomi, he couldn’t say if Tuomi was unconscious or not when beaten to death. Dahmer did conclude from the bruising to Tuomis chest however. That there was a good chance he had tried to rip Tuomis heart out after killing him. Almost all the murders Dahmer committed after moving into his flat had involved a ritual of posing the victims’ bodies in suggestive positions. Typically with the chest thrust outwards, prior to dismemberment.
Dahmer admitted to performing necrophilia with several of his victims’ bodies. Including performing sexual acts with the heads, as he dismembered their bodies in his bathtub. Having noted that much of the blood pooled inside his victims’ chest after death. He explained, he would first remove their internal organs, then suspended the torso so the blood drained into his bathtub. Before dicing any organs he did not wish to retain and stripping the flesh from the body.
The bones he wished to dispose of were pulverized or acidified, with the Soilex and bleach solutions used to aid in the preservation of the skeletons and skulls he wished to keep. In addition, he confessed to having consumed the hearts, livers, biceps, and portions of thighs of several victims he killed within the previous year.
Describing the increase in his rate of killing in the two months prior to his arrest, he stated he had been “completely swept along” with his compulsion to kill, adding.
“It was an incessant and never-ending desire to be with someone at whatever cost. Someone good looking, really nice looking. It just filled my thoughts all day long.”
When asked as to why he had preserved a total of seven skulls and the entire skeletons of two victims. Dahmer stated, he had been in the process of constructing a private altar of victims’ skulls. Which he had intended to display on the black table located in his living room. The same table he had photographed the bodies of many of his victims.
This display of skulls was to be adorned at each side with the complete skeletons of Ernest Miller and Oliver Lacy. The four severed heads found in his kitchen were to be removed of all flesh and used in this altar. As was the skull of at least one future victim.
Incense sticks were to be placed at each end of the black table. Above which Dahmer intended to place a large blue lamp with extending blue globe lights. The entire construction was to be placed before a window covered with a black, opaque shower curtain. in front of which Dahmer intended to sit in a black leather chair.
When asked in a November 18, 1991 interview who the altar was dedicated to, Dahmer replied: “Myself … It was a place where I could feel at home.” He further described his intended altar as a “place for meditation,” from where he believed he could draw a sense of power. Adding, “If this [his arrest] had happened six months later, that’s what they would have found.”
The charges Dahmer faced
July 25, 1991, Dahmer was charged with four counts of first-degree murder. By August 22, he had been charged with a further 11 murders committed in the state of Wisconsin.
On September 14, investigators in Ohio, having uncovered hundreds of bone fragments in woodland behind the address in which Dahmer had confessed to killing his first victim, formally identified two molars and a vertebra with X-ray records of Steven Mark Hicks. Three days later, Dahmer was charged by authorities in Ohio with the murder of Steven Hicks.
Dahmer was not charged with the attempted murder of Tracy Edwards. Nor with the murder of Steven Tuomi. He was not charged with Tuomi’s murder because the Milwaukee County District Attorney only brought charges where a murder could be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. As Dahmer had no memory of actually committing this particular murder, for which no physical evidence of the crime existed. At a scheduled preliminary hearing on January 13, 1992. Dahmer pleaded guilty but insane to 15 counts of murder.
Dahmers trial and many diagnosis results.
“This has never been a case of trying to get free. I didn’t ever want freedom. Frankly, I wanted death for myself. This was a case to tell the world that I did what I did not for reasons of hate, I hated no one. I know I was sick or evil, or both. Now I believe I was sick. The doctors have told me about my sickness and now I have some peace.”
Jeffrey Dahmer on trial
Jeffrey Dahmer’s trial began on January 30, 1992. He was tried in Milwaukee for the 15 counts of first-degree murder, before Judge Laurence Gram. By pleading guilty on January 13 to the charges brought against him, Dahmer had waived his rights to an initial trial to establish guilt (as defined in Wisconsin law).
The issue debated by opposing counsels at Dahmer’s trial. Was to determine whether he suffered from either a mental or a personality disorder. The prosecution claiming that any disorders did not deprive Dahmer of the ability to appreciate the criminality of his conduct. Or to deprive him of the ability to resist his impulses. The defense arguing that Dahmer suffered from a mental disease. Saying he was driven by obsessions and impulses he was unable to control.
Defense experts argued that Dahmer was insane due to his necrophilic drive, His compulsion to have sexual encounters with corpses. Defense expert Dr. Fred Berlin testified that Dahmer was unable to conform his conduct at the time that he committed the crimes. Because he was suffering from paraphilia or, more specifically, necrophilia.
Dr. Judith Becker, a professor of psychiatry and psychology. Was the second expert witness for the defense. Becker also diagnosed Dahmer with necrophilia.
The final defense expert to testify, forensic psychiatrist Dr. Carl Wahlstrom. Diagnosed Dahmer with borderline personality disorder, schizotypal personality disorder, necrophilia, alcohol dependence, and a psychotic disorder.
The prosecution rejected the defense’s argument that Dahmer was insane. Forensic psychiatrist Dr. Phillip Resnick testified that Dahmer did not suffer from primary necrophilia. Because he preferred live sexual partners as evidenced by his efforts to create unresistant, submissive sexual partners. devoid of rational thought and to whose needs he did not have to cater.
Another prosecution expert to testify, Dr. Fred Fosdel. Testified to his belief that Dahmer was without mental disease or defect at the time he committed the murders. He described Dahmer as a calculating and cunning individual, able to differentiate between right and wrong. With the ability to control his actions.
